I like curves, but not 911 style ones. I miss the old sexy curviness of the pre C7 Corvettes. But progress will triumph, I suppose.

i dont like either of the options you showed.....
but i guess i side with curves

911 curves...

Curves, angles belong in the 80s(trucks excluded)
![]() 10/16/2019 at 18:00 |

In that picture, curves. C8 looks awfully busy there. Bring me some wedge-tastic ‘80s goodness and I might give you a different opinion.

Angles and an extra 40k

Curves.
I dig the Corvette, but for me it’s a matter of it being a value proposition. If my budget is 60-70k I’d have a hard time now justifying a Cayman over a C8. But if my budget is 100k-ish , gimme that 992.

I’m a “Ford Guy” who also loves Porsches and have always savored the opportunity to poke fun at the General BUT the C8 is one of the most exciting car developments in years so I am heavily leaning towards “angles” in the case.

The 911 is still my dream car. The Corvette I could conceivably own yet I don’t.

I prefer curves with a few angles thrown in where it makes sense to have those angles.

Here’s the thing: If you have 911 money, you still buy the 911.
Here’s another thing: The ego of the 911 owner is so fragile. The number of potshots I’ve heard from Porsche people aimed at the C8 is hilarious. It’s not even out and they’re making statements about interior, american-ness, etc. A Carrera S STARTS AT $114,650 before a single option. A C8 with performance options is about $70k. It’s so thin skinned to get all defensive about it.

Curves to a point, but it isn’t that simple.
A mid-90s Mercury Sable/Ford Taurus is a horrible blobby mess, with not a single hard line to be found.
But an early 90s FD-3S RX7 is a gorgeous timeless beauty, also all curves, not much of a hard straight line to be found.
Modern lexuses (save LC500) and others have so many creased lines that go nowhere, and do nothing, that they are ridiculously overstyled.
Giugiaro wedge shapes like Maserati Merak/Bora, Lotus Esprit, Gen-1 VW Scirrocco and others, are very angular, chiseled, and geometric shapes, but are seen as great examples of that genre, and still look great today, and are not overstyled.
Good design is good design, bad design is bad design, curved or linear.

Angles. Those particular curves are quite boring.
![]() 10/16/2019 at 18:52 |

I’d take the 911 over the C8, but a C7 over the 911, but a Cayman GT4 over a C7 as long as we’re not worried about costs at all.

I think this is where I’d plant my flag as well. Good design is good design.

Not a Ford guy typically but I really liked the new Ford GT(40?) . Definitely into the new C8 though , sorta more than I expected to be. I really liked the C6, the C7 never felt ‘right’... I’m digging this revoluation more than the previous evolution.

I believe you can still buy a new 991.2 Carrera T.
![]() 10/16/2019 at 20:40 |

This.
Does the new one have a dry sump?
![]() 10/16/2019 at 20:43 |

I’m sure you can!
![]() 10/16/2019 at 20:43 |

Not comparable but you can still spec a brand new 991.2 GT3 Touring package, which is really the only sports car you could want or need.

Well said, but what about in this case?
![]() 10/16/2019 at 21:18 |

Yes...
![]() 10/16/2019 at 21:21 |

I think these particular a ngles are too much.

Curves in this case, and perhaps slightly favored in general.
The 911 is the better example of good design, but that doesn’t excuse the boring black plastic grille front on the 992... and the whole car could use a little bit of flair from wheel design, color accent , or something.
The Corvette is busy, un-resolved, and not cohesive, but that isn’t to mean that it is horrible, just not ideal. There are interesting aspects to the design, and with some re-styling a facelift C8.2 or C9 has very real potential to look far better with only some surface changes.

Guess so!

Hard to argue.
![]() 10/16/2019 at 21:22 |

yeah the forums were interesting. “Interior is going to suck..C6" You know you can buy a good set of recaros for 2k and still be 20k ahead.

I’ll take mine in basalt black with houndstooth cloth inserts
![]() 10/16/2019 at 21:24 |

Really makes the C8 look needlessly over styled. There’s like 10 character lines in that front hood
![]() 10/16/2019 at 21:28 |
|
The 992 definitely needs the SportDesign front clip.

I’m a big fan of Sapphire Blue.
But may have to go PTS... purple? green?

Yeah, waaay too busy.

Irish green is always correct

It’s great.
That new green on the Taycan is stunning as well.

That car is incredible. I’m waiting on the price of the base model and / or Audi E-Tron for my next daily driver
![]() 10/16/2019 at 22:43 |

Wrong car. This should be a Ferrari 488 vs. Porsche 992 S.
![]() 10/16/2019 at 23:12 |

488 is still pretty curvy.

I’m willing to give the C8 a pass for being too busy, what with it being mid-ship powah and all. But the C7? Far too many creases, folds and pointless angles to sit well with me after its restrained C6 and C5 ancestors.
